Rice Price in Mexico (CIF) - 2023
In June 2023, the average rice import price amounted to $509 per ton, with a decrease of -55.1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 an increase of 90% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $1,181 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to June 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Uruguay ($723 per ton), while the price for Brazil ($432 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (0.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Rice Price in Mexico (FOB) - 2023
In May 2023, the average rice export price amounted to $933 per ton, remaining constant against the previous month. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,210 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to May 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Cuba.
From June 2022 to May 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for the United States amounted to +3.1% per month.
Rice Imports in Mexico
In 2022, supplies from abroad of rice decreased by -36.4% to 574K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports, however, saw a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 918%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 914K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, rice imports plummeted to $300M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 510% against the previous year.
