In value terms, the largest safety headgear markets worldwide were Japan ($3.6B), China ($1.9B) and Indonesia ($1.2B), with a combined 42% share of the global market. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the production volume increased by 23%. Global production peaked at 782M units in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, safety headgear production declined to $15.3B in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the production volume increased by 26%. Over the period under review, global production attained the maximum level at $19B in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Production By Country

China (295M units) remains the largest safety headgear producing country worldwide, accounting for 38% of total volume. Moreover, safety headgear production in China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Russia (112M units), threefold. India (64M units) ranked third in terms of total production with an 8.2% share.

World Imports of Safety Headgear

In 2022, purchases abroad of safety headgear increased by 5.9% to 246M units, rising for the second consecutive year after four years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 20% against the previous year. Global imports peaked at 265M units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, safety headgear imports surged to $4.7B in 2022. In general, imports enjoyed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. Global imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
