Snail Price in Malaysia (CIF) - 2022
The average snail import price stood at $1,452 per ton in 2022, jumping by 19% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 304% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $6,707 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($4,747 per ton), while the price for Thailand ($792 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+0.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Snail Price in Malaysia (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average snail export price amounted to $847 per ton, almost unchanged from the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a significant decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by 309%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $780,000 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Greece ($5,265 per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($236 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Greece (+54.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Snail Imports in Malaysia
After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of snails (except sea snails) decreased by -6% to 375 tons in 2022. In general, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +13.1% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +44.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 36%.
In value terms, snail imports rose remarkably to $544K in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +8.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 41%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $600K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Snail Exports in Malaysia
In 2022, the amount of snails (except sea snails) exported from Malaysia shrank markedly to 21 tons, waning by -50% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 4,224,600%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 42 tons, and then declined notably in the following year.
In value terms, snail exports dropped markedly to $18K in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 28,880%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $36K, and then contracted markedly in the following year.
