In 2022, the average starches; inulin export price amounted to $716 per ton, rising by 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, starches; inulin export price increased by +89.0% against 2016 indices. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Portugal ($878 per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($285 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+5.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the fourth consecutive year, Spain recorded growth in overseas purchases of starches; inulins, which increased by 17% to 102K tons in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +17.1% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +60.5% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 20%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, starches; inulin imports skyrocketed to $89M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +16.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +58.5% against 2019 indices.
