Styrene Price in Singapore (FOB) - 2022
In September 2022, the average styrene export price amounted to $1,504 per ton, reducing by -10.7% against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated noticeable growth from September 2021 to September 2022: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.3% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, styrene export price decreased by -21.3% against June 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2022 when the average export price increased by 30% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $1,911 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to September 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($3,310 per ton), while the average price for exports to India ($1,485 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2021 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+9.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Styrene Price in Singapore (CIF) - 2022
The average styrene import price stood at $2,519 per ton in 2022, rising by 50% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, styrene import price increased by +101.2% against 2020 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Malaysia.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Malaysia amounted to +4.8% per year.
Styrene Exports in Singapore
In 2022, the amount of styrene exported from Singapore shrank to 677K tons, falling by -11.4% on 2021 figures. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 764K tons, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, styrene exports soared to $1.2B in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 126%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
