Sugary Soft Drink Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023
The average sugary soft drink import price stood at $1.9 per litre in September 2023, increasing by 51% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated pronounced growth from September 2022 to September 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.6% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2023 figures, sugary soft drink import price increased by +51.3% against August 2023 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($3.1 per litre), while the price for Guatemala ($469 per thousand litres) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Honduras (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sugary Soft Drink Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023
The average sugary soft drink export price stood at $1.1 per litre in September 2023, leveling off at the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 8.2% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $1.1 per litre in August 2023, and then dropped modestly in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Australia ($1.4 per litre), while the average price for exports to Peru ($812 per thousand litres) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Australia (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sugary Soft Drink Imports in the United States
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of sugary soft drinks, when their volume decreased by -51.9% to 812M litres. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 8.7%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 1.7B litres, and then fell rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, sugary soft drink imports contracted dramatically to $1.3B in 2022. In general, imports faced a dramatic curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 2.8%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $2.7B in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
