The average tobacco refuse import price stood at $1,217 per ton in July 2023, picking up by 17% against the previous month. Over the period from July 2022 to July 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +4.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 an increase of 25% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure in July 2023.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($2,701 per ton), while the price for Spain ($613 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (+9.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average tobacco refuse export price amounted to $561 per ton, waning by -46.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a pronounced increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 156%. The export price peaked at $1,239 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($2,111 per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($106 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+14.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
