Vanilla Price in Indonesia (FOB) - 2022

The average vanilla export price stood at $197,213 per ton in 2022, dropping by -17% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 220% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $361,611 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($417,694 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($12,478 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to India (+85.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Vanilla Price in Indonesia (CIF) - 2022

The average vanilla import price stood at $24,369 per ton in 2022, declining by -53.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 198%. The import price peaked at $84,880 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Madagascar ($201,682 per ton), while the price for China ($1,435 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+40.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Vanilla Exports in Indonesia

In 2022, overseas shipments of vanilla decreased by -9.5% to 313 tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports showed a mild decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 9.3% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 363 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, vanilla exports fell remarkably to $62M in 2022. In general, exports faced a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 12%.

Vanilla Imports in Indonesia

For the fourth year in a row, Indonesia recorded growth in supplies from abroad of vanilla, which increased by 172% to 825 tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports posted a significant increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, vanilla imports surged to $20M in 2022. Overall, imports saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 313%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $21M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
