The average wool; carded import price stood at $39,566 per ton in 2022, which is down by -9% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 262% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $43,472 per ton in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($154,296 per ton), while the price for the UK ($18,156 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by New Zealand (+19.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price peaked at $40,248 per ton in 2021, and then declined markedly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($23,838 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Philippines ($9,623 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+8.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, wool; carded imports shrank rapidly to $66K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports faced a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 24%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $113K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
