Yams Price in Australia (CIF) - 2023
The average yams import price stood at $3,265 per ton in November 2023, with an increase of 14% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2023 when the average import price increased by 47% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $3,754 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to November 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was China ($3,473 per ton), while the price for Thailand ($2,291 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tonga (+28.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Yams Price in Australia (FOB) - 2022
The average yams export price stood at $8,567 per ton in 2022, dropping by -44.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a modest expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 448% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $15,424 per ton, and then shrank markedly in the following year.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Hong Kong SAR.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Hong Kong SAR amounted to +22.2% per year.
Yams Imports in Australia
In 2022, the amount of yams imported into Australia fell markedly to 326 tons, with a decrease of -58% on the year before. Over the period under review, imports faced a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 37% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 775 tons, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, yams imports fell sharply to $966K in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated modest growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 46% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $1.5M, and then reduced sharply in the following year.

Yams Exports in Australia
