The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest electric blanket supplier in Africa, comprising 81% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Nigeria ($X), with an 8.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Namibia, with a 4.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa stood at -4.6%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Nigeria (+15.6% per year) and Namibia (+27.6% per year).

The export price in Africa stood at $X per unit in 2021, increasing by 13% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a abrupt decrease. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per unit), while Nigeria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was decline in overseas purchases of electric blankets, when their volume decreased by -2.2% to X units. In general, imports recorded a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 44%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, electric blanket imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a deep setback. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

South Africa prevails in imports structure, recording X units, which was approx. 70% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Egypt (X units), making up an 8.8% share of total imports. The following importers - Lesotho (X units), Algeria (X units), Djibouti (X units), Angola (X units) and Libya (X units) - each resulted at a 9.4% share of total imports.

Imports into South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of -4.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Egypt (+55.3%), Djibouti (+55.1%), Lesotho (+12.2%) and Libya (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Egypt emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +55.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Angola (-7.2%) and Algeria (-8.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Egypt, Djibouti and Lesotho increased by +8.7, +1.8 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
