In 2022, the amount of polyethylene glycols and polyethers in primary forms exported in Africa dropped dramatically to X tons, with a decrease of X% against 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed noticeable growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

In value terms, polyethylene glycol and polyether exports fell markedly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a modest expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of X%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then declined significantly in the following year.

Exports by Country

The shipments of the three major exporters of polyethylene glycols and polyethers in primary forms, namely South Africa, Morocco and Tanzania, represented more than two-thirds of total export. It was distantly followed by Egypt (X tons), achieving a X% share of total exports. Uganda (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Tanzania (with a CAGR of X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, South Africa ($X), Morocco ($X) and Egypt ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined X% share of total exports. Tanzania and Uganda lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.

Among the main exporting countries, Tanzania, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, dropping by X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a noticeable decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Tanzania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (X%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Africa

In 2022, polyethylene glycol and polyether imports in Africa fell to X tons, which is down by X% compared with the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
