Exports of Laptops and Palm-Top Computers

In 2023, shipments abroad of laptops and palm-top computers decreased by X% to X units, falling for the second consecutive year after four years of growth. In general, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X units in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2023, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, laptop and tablet computer exports dropped dramatically to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by X%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2023, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

China dominates exports structure, resulting at X units, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2023. It was distantly followed by Hong Kong SAR (X units), constituting a X% share of total exports. The following exporters - Vietnam (X units) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X units) - each amounted to a X% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2023, average annual rates of growth with regard to laptop and tablet computer exports from China stood at X%. At the same time, Taiwan (Chinese) (X%), Vietnam (X%) and Hong Kong SAR (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per unit), while Hong Kong SAR ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Hong Kong SAR experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of laptops and palm-top computers. At the same time, China (X%), Taiwan (Chinese) (X%), India (X%), South Korea (X%), the United Arab Emirates (X%), Vietnam (X%), Thailand (X%), Turkey (X%) and Japan (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, China emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. Malaysia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Singapore (X%) and Indonesia (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (X p.p.), India (X p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Singapore, Indonesia and Hong Kong SAR saw its share reduced by X%, X% and X% from 2012 to 2023, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Japan ($X), India ($X) and Hong Kong SAR ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2023, together comprising X% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates, South Korea, Thailand, Turkey, Taiwan (Chinese), Indonesia, Singapore, China, Vietnam and Malaysia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.
