The Central Asian sealed beam market soared to $X in 2022, growing by 18% against the previous year. In general, consumption posted a strong expansion. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, sealed beam production soared to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production showed a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the production volume increased by 268%. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Central Asia

Sealed beam exports skyrocketed to X units in 2022, increasing by 204% compared with the year before. Overall, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 291%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, sealed beam exports shrank remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, faced a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 105% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Tajikistan dominates exports structure, resulting at X units, which was near 80% of total exports in 2022. Turkmenistan (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with an 8.2% share, followed by Kazakhstan (6.8%). Kyrgyzstan (X units) and Mongolia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Tajikistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the sealed beam lamp units exports, with a CAGR of +20.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Turkmenistan (+8.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-8.1%), Kyrgyzstan (-23.7%) and Mongolia (-24.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Tajikistan (+68 p.p.) and Turkmenistan (+4.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Kazakhstan, Mongolia and Kyrgyzstan saw its share reduced by -8.2%, -32% and -33% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Mongolia ($X) emerged as the largest sealed beam supplier in Central Asia, comprising 50% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkmenistan ($X), with a 25% share of total exports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 15% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Mongolia totaled +1.9%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Turkmenistan (-16.9% per year) and Kazakhstan (-5.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Central Asia amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -84.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 340%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mongolia ($X per unit), while Tajikistan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mongolia (+35.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Central Asia

In 2022, the amount of sealed beam lamp units imported in Central Asia contracted to X units, with a decrease of -14.8% compared with 2021. Overall, imports recorded a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 133% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, sealed beam imports declined dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a pronounced setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 127% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Kazakhstan (X units) was the key importer of sealed beam lamp units, achieving 56% of total imports. Kyrgyzstan (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Tajikistan (X units) and Turkmenistan (X units). All these countries together took approx. 40% share of total imports. Uzbekistan (X units) took a little share of total imports.

Imports into Kazakhstan decreased at an average annual rate of -3.7% from 2012 to 2022. Kyrgyzstan (-2.7%), Uzbekistan (-20.3%), Tajikistan (-26.3%) and Turkmenistan (-29.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Kazakhstan (+42 p.p.), Kyrgyzstan (+16 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+2.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Turkmenistan and Tajikistan saw its share reduced by -23.4% and -37.9% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported sealed beam lamp units in Central Asia, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kyrgyzstan ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Tajikistan, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Kazakhstan totaled -1.1%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kyrgyzstan (+1.8% per year) and Tajikistan (-9.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per unit, approximately reflecting the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the import price increased by 115% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit, and then fell modestly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per unit), while Turkmenistan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
