Photographic Paper Exports

Exports in CIS

In 2021, approx. X square meters of photographic paper, paperboard and textiles were exported in the CIS; surging by 9.8% compared with the previous year's figure. Total exports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +12.9% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X square meters in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, photographic paper exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 72%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Belarus (X square meters) was the largest exporter of photographic paper, paperboard and textiles, committing 66% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Russia (X square meters), committing a 33% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Belarus (with a CAGR of +16.3%).

In value terms, the largest photographic paper supplying countries in the CIS were Russia ($X) and Belarus ($X).

Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the export price increased by 55% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per square meter. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per square meter), while Belarus stood at $X per square meter.

In 2021, approx. X square meters of photographic paper, paperboard and textiles were imported in the CIS; with an increase of 19% against 2020. In general, imports, however, showed a abrupt downturn. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X square meters in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, photographic paper imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a deep setback. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Russia represented the largest importing country with an import of around X square meters, which resulted at 58% of total imports. Kazakhstan (X square meters) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Kyrgyzstan (X square meters), Uzbekistan (X square meters) and Tajikistan (X square meters). All these countries together held near 36% share of total imports. Armenia (X square meters) and Belarus (X square meters) held a little share of total imports.

Imports into Russia decreased at an average annual rate of -11.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+18.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +18.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Tajikistan (-2.9%), Armenia (-3.1%), Kazakhstan (-5.9%), Belarus (-8.1%) and Uzbekistan (-8.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan increased by +8.1, +6.3, +3.3 and +2 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported photographic paper, paperboard and textiles in the CIS, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Tajikistan, with a 6.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia totaled -11.3%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (-3.2% per year) and Tajikistan (-2.2% per year).

In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per square meter, picking up by 6.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 14%. The level of import peaked at $X per square meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
