In 2021, overseas shipments of fluorescent discharge lamps were finally on the rise to reach X units after four years of decline. Overall, exports, however, recorded a deep downturn. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Ghana (X units) represented the key exporter of fluorescent discharge lamps, making up 48% of total exports. Mali (X units) took a 22% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Nigeria (18%) and Togo (5.7%). Cote d'Ivoire (X units) took a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to fluorescent discharge lamps exports from Ghana stood at -11.8%. In value terms, Ghana ($X) remains the largest fluorescent discharge lamps supplier in ECOWAS, comprising 44% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Nigeria, with a 15% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Ghana totaled -5.0%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Cote d'Ivoire (+28.1% per year) and Nigeria (-22.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per unit, falling by -28.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, posted a pronounced expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the export price increased by 62%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2020, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per unit), while Togo ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (+21.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the amount of fluorescent discharge lamps imported in ECOWAS contracted markedly to X units, with a decrease of -18% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, imports saw a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 65% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, fluorescent discharge lamps imports shrank dramatically to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 32%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
