The ECOWAS lamp holder market shrank modestly to $X in 2022, dropping by -2.6% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -7.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the production volume increased by 57%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in ECOWAS

Lamp holder exports reduced notably to X tons in 2022, waning by -18.4% against the previous year. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 289%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, lamp holder exports declined remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a perceptible setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 47%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Ghana (X tons) was the main exporter of lamp holders, plugs and sockets, mixing up 49% of total exports. Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Niger (X tons), Nigeria (X tons), Sierra Leone (X tons) and Togo (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 44% share of total exports. Burkina Faso (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

Exports from Ghana increased at an average annual rate of +45.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Niger (+46.6%), Nigeria (+18.8%), Cote d'Ivoire (+9.2%), Sierra Leone (+4.7%) and Togo (+3.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Niger emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +46.6% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Burkina Faso (-6.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Ghana (+47 p.p.), Niger (+9 p.p.), Nigeria (+6 p.p.) and Cote d'Ivoire (+2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Togo, Sierra Leone and Burkina Faso saw its share reduced by -2.1%, -2.1% and -8.8% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, the largest lamp holder supplying countries in ECOWAS were Sierra Leone ($X), Ghana ($X) and Burkina Faso ($X), together accounting for 75% of total exports. Nigeria, Cote d'Ivoire, Niger and Togo lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 16%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Togo, with a CAGR of +25.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per ton, waning by -8.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price faced a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 36%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Burkina Faso ($X per ton), while Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Togo (+21.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in ECOWAS

Lamp holder imports dropped remarkably to X tons in 2022, reducing by -31.4% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, imports saw a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 42%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, lamp holder imports fell to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 59%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

Imports by Country

Ghana was the major importer of lamp holders, plugs and sockets in ECOWAS, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was near 50% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Senegal (X tons), Nigeria (X tons) and Burkina Faso (X tons), together creating a 29% share of total imports. The following importers - Gambia (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Togo (X tons), Mali (X tons) and Benin (X tons) - together made up 18% of total imports.

Imports into Ghana increased at an average annual rate of +11.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Gambia (+27.1%), Senegal (+12.7%), Mali (+11.1%), Burkina Faso (+8.5%) and Benin (+1.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Gambia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ECOWAS, with a CAGR of +27.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Togo (-3.2%), Cote d'Ivoire (-8.3%) and Nigeria (-18.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Ghana, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Gambia and Mali increased by +37, +9, +4.4, +4.1 and +2.4 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Ghana ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported lamp holders, plugs and sockets in ECOWAS, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Senegal ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Nigeria, with an 8.6% share.

In Ghana, lamp holder imports expanded at an average annual rate of +12.1% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Senegal (+12.0% per year) and Nigeria (-7.1% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in ECOWAS amounted to $X per ton, growing by 33% against the previous year. Import price indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, lamp holder import price decreased by -0.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 160%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton), while Burkina Faso ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Togo (+21.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
