From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, shipping exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
The shipments of the three major exporters of ships, vessels, ferry-boats for the transport of persons, namely Liberia, Nigeria and Ghana, represented more than two-thirds of total export. It was distantly followed by Senegal (X units), committing a X% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Ghana (with a CAGR of X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) remains the largest shipping supplier in ECOWAS, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Liberia ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Ghana, with a X% share.

In 2022, the export price in ECOWAS amounted to $X,935 per unit, surging by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, faced a drastic downturn. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, shipping imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports posted resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of X%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Liberia (X units) represented the major importer of ships, vessels, ferry-boats for the transport of persons, mixing up X% of total imports. Nigeria (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Ghana (X units), Gambia (X units), Guinea (X units), Cote d'Ivoire (X units) and Sierra Leone (X units). All these countries together took approx. X% share of total imports. Benin (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Liberia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the ships, vessels, ferry-boats for the transport of persons imports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Benin (X%), Guinea (X%) and Ghana (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Sierra Leone and Gambia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern.
