In value terms, isolating switch exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. Italy represented the key exporter of isolating switches & make-and-break switches in the European Union, with the volume of exports finishing at X units, which was approx. 44% of total exports in 2022. The Netherlands (X units) held an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Bulgaria (9.9%), France (9.4%), Poland (7%) and Germany (6.5%). By contrast, Spain (-2.4%) and Germany (-6.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Bulgaria (+7.4 p.p.), the Netherlands (+3.6 p.p.) and France (+2.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Germany and Italy saw its share reduced by -6.2% and -8.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Italy ($X) remains the largest isolating switch supplier in the European Union, comprising 45% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with a 9.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Italy amounted to +5.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Germany (-0.8% per year) and France (+3.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2022, stabilizing at the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 14%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit, leveling off in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while Poland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

Germany (X units) and Spain (X units) represented roughly 31% of total imports in 2022. France (X units) held a 7.7% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Finland (6.6%), Belgium (6.2%), Sweden (5.1%), the Netherlands (5%) and Greece (4.7%). Ireland (X units), Poland (X units), Austria (X units), Romania (X units) and Italy (X units) took a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Ireland (with a CAGR of +23.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest isolating switch importing markets in the European Union were Germany ($X), Spain ($X) and Sweden ($X), together comprising 35% of total imports. France, Belgium, Austria, Poland, Finland, the Netherlands, Italy, Greece, Ireland and Romania lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 52%.

Among the main importing countries, Ireland, with a CAGR of +20.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, declining by -6.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a noticeable descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 9.9% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per unit), while Romania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
