Exports from Germany increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Romania (+16.4%), Belgium (+14.6%), Poland (+13.1%), the Netherlands (+8.0%), Spain (+5.3%), Hungary (+5.0%), the Czech Republic (+4.0%), Austria (+3.9%), France (+3.2%) and Italy (+1.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Romania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +16.4% from 2012-2022. Switzerland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the UK (-12.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Belgium (+4.2 p.p.), Romania (+3.2 p.p.), Germany (+2.3 p.p.), Poland (+2.1 p.p.) and the Netherlands (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Italy, Switzerland and the UK saw its share reduced by -1.6%, -1.9% and -8.1% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest lamp holder supplier in Europe, comprising 46% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 9.9% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with a 7.2% share.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +32.8% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 28%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then contracted in the following year.
