Silk Yarn Exports

Exports in Europe

In 2023, shipments abroad of silk yarn and yarn spun from silk waste increased by X% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after three years of decline. In general, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2022 with an increase of X%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2023, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, silk yarn exports soared to $X in 2023. Total exports indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2023: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, exports increased by X% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by X%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2023, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Romania represented the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which reached X% of total exports. Italy (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a X% share, followed by Slovenia (X%). Portugal (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Romania increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Slovenia (X%) and Portugal (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Slovenia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, Italy (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2023, the share of Romania, Slovenia and Portugal increased by X, X and X percentage points, respectively.
