In value terms, polyurethanes exports reduced to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2023, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Uganda (X tons) was the main destination for polyurethanes exports from Kenya, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, polyurethanes exports to Uganda exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Tanzania (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Rwanda (X kg), with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2023, the average annual growth rate of volume to Uganda amounted to X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Tanzania (X% per year) and Rwanda (X% per year).

In value terms, Uganda ($X) remains the key foreign market for polyurethanes in primary forms exports from Kenya, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tanzania ($X), with an X% share of total exports. It was followed by Rwanda, with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2023, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Uganda amounted to X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Tanzania (X% per year) and Rwanda (X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2023, the average polyurethanes export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Rwanda ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Burundi ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Rwanda (X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Polyurethanes Imports

Imports into Kenya

After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of polyurethanes in primary forms decreased by X% to X tons in 2023. In general, imports, however, showed a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2022 with an increase of X%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then fell sharply in the following year.

In value terms, polyurethanes imports dropped significantly to $X in 2023. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by X%. Imports peaked at $X in 2022, and then fell markedly in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2023, China (X tons) constituted the largest polyurethanes supplier to Kenya, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, polyurethanes imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), fourfold. Morocco (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an X% share.

From 2012 to 2023, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (X% per year) and Morocco (X% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of polyurethanes in primary forms to Kenya, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2023, the average annual growth rate of value from China amounted to X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (X% per year) and Italy (X% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average polyurethanes import price stood at $X per ton in 2023, approximately reflecting the previous year. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of X% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton), while the price for Morocco ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
