In 2022, the Latin American lamp holder market decreased by -98.6% to $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw prominent growth. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the production volume increased by 16% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2022, lamp holder exports in Latin America and the Caribbean reduced to X tons, waning by -9.7% on the year before. In general, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 104% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, lamp holder exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a strong increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Mexico prevails in exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was near 88% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Costa Rica (X tons), committing a 6.5% share of total exports. Colombia (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

Mexico was also the fastest-growing in terms of the lamp holders, plugs and sockets exports, with a CAGR of +1.1% from 2012 to 2022. Colombia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Costa Rica (-1.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Mexico (+4.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Costa Rica (-1.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Mexico totaled +15.5%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Costa Rica (-5.3% per year) and Colombia (-1.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, surging by 130% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a buoyant expansion. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while Colombia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+14.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2022, the amount of lamp holders, plugs and sockets imported in Latin America and the Caribbean dropped dramatically to X tons, with a decrease of -99.5% compared with 2021. In general, imports, however, posted temperate growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 36,382% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

Mexico was the key importer of lamp holders, plugs and sockets in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was approx. 45% of total imports in 2022. Chile (X tons) held an 8.6% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Peru (6.6%), Nicaragua (5.8%) and Colombia (4.8%). At the same time, Nicaragua (+27.3%), the Dominican Republic (+24.8%), Chile (+11.6%), Guatemala (+8.8%), Honduras (+7.2%), Peru (+6.8%), El Salvador (+5.8%), Ecuador (+4.6%), Colombia (+3.7%), Brazil (+2.6%) and Panama (+2.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Nicaragua emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +27.3% from 2012-2022. Costa Rica experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Nicaragua, Chile and the Dominican Republic increased by +5, +4.2 and +2.2 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
