Maize Exports

Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2022, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of maize (green), when their volume decreased by X% to X tons. Total exports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by X% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, maize exports amounted to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of X%. In 2022, Mexico (X tons) represented the main exporter of maize (green), comprising X% of total exports. Honduras (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a X% share, followed by Costa Rica (X%) and Guatemala (X%). The following exporters - the Dominican Republic (X tons) and Nicaragua (X tons) - together made up X% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to maize exports from Mexico stood at X%. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of X%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, maize imports rose markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a strong expansion.
