Overall, exports, however, showed a precipitous contraction. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the largest tungsten halogen lamp supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 93% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Brazil ($X), with a 3.2% share of total exports. It was followed by Panama, with a 0.8% share.

In Mexico, tungsten halogen lamp exports contracted by an average annual rate of -21.8% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Brazil (-5.9% per year) and Panama (-23.7% per year).

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per unit in 2021, which is down by -4.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 20% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2020, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per unit), while El Salvador ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+1.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2021, overseas purchases of tungsten halogen lamps were finally on the rise to reach X units after four years of decline. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Brazil was the key importer of tungsten halogen lamps in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of imports amounting to X units, which was approx. 60% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Mexico (X units), generating an 11% share of total imports. Argentina (X units), Chile (X units), Colombia (X units), Guatemala (X units), Paraguay (X units), Peru (X units) and El Salvador (X units) held a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to tungsten halogen lamp imports into Brazil stood at +4.9%. At the same time, Paraguay (+7.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Guatemala, Paraguay and El Salvador lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 19%.

Guatemala, with a CAGR of +3.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
