In 2022, Tunisia (X tons), distantly followed by Egypt (X tons), Turkey (X tons), Morocco (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) represented the key exporters of salt and pure sodium chloride, together achieving X% of total exports. The following exporters - Iran (X tons) and Israel (X tons) - together made up X% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Qatar increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Israel (X%), Libya (X%), the United Arab Emirates (X%), Oman (X%), Kuwait (X%) and Lebanon (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Israel emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. The United Arab Emirates (X p.p.), Libya (X p.p.), Oman (X p.p.), Qatar (X p.p.) and Israel (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Qatar ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Oman ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for X% of total imports. Kuwait, Israel, Libya and Lebanon lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.
Among the main importing countries, Israel, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, declining by X% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a slight downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of X%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kuwait ($X per ton), while Lebanon ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
