The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 203%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, illuminated sign imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -23.4% against 2014 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 99%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

China (X tons), Belarus (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) were the main suppliers of illuminated sign imports to Romania, together accounting for 41% of total imports. These countries were followed by Austria, Poland, Ukraine, Italy, Greece, Germany, the Netherlands, Hungary and Denmark, which together accounted for a further 48%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Ukraine (with a CAGR of +177.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Austria ($X) constituted the largest supplier of illuminated signs and illuminated name-plates to Romania, comprising 24% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a 9.7% share.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the price for Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
