In value terms, copper chain exports expanded to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of X%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Mauritius (X tons) was the main exporter of chain and parts thereof of copper, achieving X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by South Africa (X tons), making up a X% share of total exports. Lesotho (X kg) took a minor share of total exports.
Exports from Mauritius increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Lesotho (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lesotho emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, South Africa (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Mauritius (X p.p.) and Lesotho (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while South Africa saw its share reduced by X% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Mauritius ($X) remains the largest copper chain supplier in SADC, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Africa ($X), with a X% share of total exports.
In Mauritius, copper chain exports expanded at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: South Africa (X% per year) and Lesotho (X% per year).

The export price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate resilient growth. Imports in SADC
After two years of decline, overseas purchases of chain and parts thereof of copper increased by X% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports posted a measured increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, copper chain imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Angola represented the major importer of chain and parts thereof of copper in SADC, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was near X% of total imports in 2022. Botswana (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an X% share, followed by South Africa (X%) and Mozambique (X%). The following importers - Tanzania (X tons), Zambia (X tons) and Namibia (X tons) - together made up X% of total imports.
Imports into Angola increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Mozambique (X%), Namibia (X%), Botswana (X%) and Zambia (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mozambique emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Tanzania (X%) and South Africa (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Angola (X p.p.), Botswana (X p.p.), Mozambique (X p.p.) and Namibia (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Tanzania (X p.p.) and South Africa (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X), Botswana ($X) and Tanzania ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising X% of total imports. Angola, Mozambique, Zambia and Namibia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Mozambique, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by X% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2021, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Tanzania ($X per ton), while Angola ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
