The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, imports increased by X% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2023 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, hot-rolled steel products imports declined to $X in 2023. In general, imports showed temperate growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2022, and then dropped in the following year.

Imports by Country

South Africa (X tons) and Tanzania (X tons) dominates imports structure, together making up X% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Angola (X tons), Zambia (X tons) and Botswana (X tons), together creating an X% share of total imports. Botswana, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2023, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per ton, reducing by X% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2022, and then shrank markedly in the following year.
