Exports in SADC

Exports of iron or steel doors, thresholds for doors and windows reduced to X units in 2022, with a decrease of -9.6% against 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 17% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports of remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, exports of iron or steel doors, thresholds for doors and windows reduced to $X in 2022. In general, exports recorded a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 16% against the previous year. From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa totaled -8.0%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Zimbabwe (+6.8% per year) and Namibia (-10.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in SADC stood at $X per unit in 2022, standing approx. at the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 14%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while Tanzania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (-2.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

After two years of decline, overseas purchases of iron or steel doors, thresholds for doors and windows increased by 0.3% to X units in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
