In 2022, the average brown rice import price amounted to $494 per ton, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 55% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $842 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($521 per ton), while the price for Egypt ($347 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
