Buckwheat Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average buckwheat export price amounted to $631 per ton, with a decrease of -4.7% against the previous month. Overall, the export price recorded a perceptible decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in September 2022 when the average export price increased by 20% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $833 per ton. From October 2022 to July 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Japan ($619 per ton), while the average price for exports to South Korea amounted to $619 per ton.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (-1.1%).
Buckwheat Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023
The average buckwheat import price stood at $1,091 per ton in July 2023, waning by -19.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a perceptible setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 an increase of 25% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,820 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to July 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was India ($1,824 per ton), while the price for Russia ($889 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+3.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Buckwheat Exports in the United States
In 2022, the amount of buckwheat exported from the United States surged to 17K tons, increasing by 16% on 2021 figures. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable contraction.
