U.S. Ethylene Export Price per Ton in August 2022
In August 2022, the ethylene price per ton stood at $893.5 (FOB, US), waning by -12.4% against the previous month. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2022 when the average export price increased by 7.9% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1.1K per ton. From July 2022 to August 2022, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In August 2022, the countries with the highest prices were Italy ($930.0 per ton) and France ($927.0 per ton), while the average price for exports to Taiwan (Chinese) ($750.0 per ton) and Colombia ($840.0 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+44.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Ethylene Exports
Ethylene exports from the United States declined markedly to 67K tons in August 2022, falling by -33.1% on July 2022. In general, exports recorded a abrupt curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 89% month-to-month.
In value terms, ethylene exports fell rapidly to $59M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 103% month-to-month.
U.S. Ethylene Exports by Country
Belgium (37K tons) was the main destination for ethylene exports from the United States, with a 55% share of total exports. Moreover, ethylene exports to Belgium exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, France (12K tons), threefold. Taiwan (Chinese) (12K tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 17% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume to Belgium amounted to -11.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: France (+14.6% per month) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+149.9% per month).
In value terms, Belgium ($33M) remains the key foreign market for ethylene exports from the United States, comprising 56% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($11M), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with a 15% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value to Belgium stood at -11.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: France (+10.1% per month) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+144.9% per month).
