Grape Price in Switzerland (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average grape import price amounted to $2,668 per ton, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a pronounced expansion from September 2022 to September 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.0% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2023 figures, grape import price decreased by -22.1% against June 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2022 an increase of 47% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $3,451 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was India ($3,893 per ton), while the price for South Africa ($2,341 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Grape Price in Switzerland (FOB) - 2022
The average grape export price stood at $3,109 per ton in 2022, which is down by -15.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 27%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $3,691 per ton in 2021, and then contracted sharply in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($4,151 per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($2,743 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Oman (+27.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Grape Imports in Switzerland
In 2022, purchases abroad of grapes decreased by -5.2% to 30K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 12% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 32K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, grape imports fell to $75M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 19%.
