Margarine and Shortening Price in Egypt (FOB) - 2023

In July 2023, the average margarine and shortening export price amounted to $2,249 per ton, leveling off at the previous month. Over the period from July 2022 to July 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in October 2022 when the average export price increased by 23% m-o-m. The export price peaked in July 2023.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In July 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Iraq ($2,456 per ton) and Palestine ($2,275 per ton), while the average price for exports to Morocco ($2,119 per ton) and Saudi Arabia ($2,119 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Palestine (+2.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Margarine and Shortening Price in Egypt (CIF) - 2023

The average margarine and shortening import price stood at $2,507 per ton in July 2023, rising by 3.6% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.5%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in October 2022 an increase of 34% against the previous month. The import price peaked in July 2023.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Ukraine ($2,507 per ton) and Indonesia ($2,507 per ton), while the price for Spain ($2,507 per ton) and Germany ($2,507 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tunisia (+3.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Margarine and Shortening Exports in Egypt

For the fourth consecutive year, Egypt recorded growth in overseas shipments of margarine and shortening, which increased by 20% to 33K tons in 2022. Overall, exports saw a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 74%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, margarine and shortening exports skyrocketed to $67M in 2022. In general, exports posted a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 100%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
