Peach and Nectarine Price in Portugal (CIF) - 2023
The average peach and nectarine import price stood at $1,081 per ton in August 2023, with a decrease of -3.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 197% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $3,274 per ton. From February 2023 to August 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Spain ($1,081 per ton), while the price for Estonia stood at $682 per ton.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (-0.6%).
Peach and Nectarine Price in Portugal (FOB) - 2023
The average peach and nectarine export price stood at $1,315 per ton in August 2023, reducing by -3.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a pronounced increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 995% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $19,981 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to August 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($1,813 per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($988 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+8.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Peach and Nectarine Imports in Portugal
After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of peaches and nectarines increased by 1.6% to 42K tons in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a deep slump.
In value terms, peach and nectarine imports expanded markedly to $50M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 28%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $52M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
