In 2022, the average cereals; maize (corn), seed import price amounted to $3,817 per ton, shrinking by -3.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 17%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $4,207 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($4,199 per ton), while the price for Turkey ($2,059 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+0.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, export price indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, cereals; maize (corn), seed export price decreased by -27.3% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 121%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $5,530 per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Senegal ($13,896 per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($2,860 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
