In November 2023, the average import price for ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses amounted to $3,603 per ton, shrinking by -43.3% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a noticeable expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in October 2023 an increase of 103% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $6,352 per ton, and then fell remarkably in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($17,195 per ton), while the price for Italy ($1,090 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Greece (+14.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses stood at $5,569 per ton in November 2023, picking up by 7.3% against the previous month. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 41% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $6,339 per ton. From March 2023 to November 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was China ($25,911 per ton), while the average price for exports to Georgia ($1,603 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+5.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, purchases abroad of ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses decreased by -12.5% to 1.5K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 40% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 2.2K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, imports of ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses shrank rapidly to $3.9M in 2022. Overall, imports showed a noticeable contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 42% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $6M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses, when their volume decreased by -29.8% to 584 tons. In general, exports, however, posted a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 74% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 832 tons, and then dropped significantly in the following year.
In value terms, exports of ginger, saffron, tumeric (curcuma), thyme, bay leaves, curry and other spiceses declined remarkably to $2.5M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 92% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $3.5M, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.
