The average import price for spices; mixtures of 2 or more products of the same heading stood at $3,462 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 12% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the average import price increased by 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $3,528 per ton in 2018; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($4,663 per ton), while the price for India ($1,146 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+5.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($5,199 per ton), while the average price for exports to South Africa ($111 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+7.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, imports of spices; mixtures of 2 or more products of the same heading skyrocketed to $2.5M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +15.2% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 28% against the previous year.
