Rice Price in Myanmar (FOB) - 2022
The average rice export price stood at $419 per ton in December 2022, growing by 2.8% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2022 an increase of 9.9% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in December 2022.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In December 2022, the highest price was recorded for prices to China ($460 per ton) and Poland ($434 per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($361 per ton) and Spain ($391 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Rice Price in Myanmar (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average rice import price amounted to $587 per ton, increasing by 20% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a mild contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by 27% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $916 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($774 per ton), while the price for China ($227 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+29.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Rice Exports in Myanmar
In 2022, shipments abroad of rice increased by 24% to 2.2M tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, saw a abrupt contraction.
In value terms, rice exports soared to $787M in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a abrupt downturn.
