Rye Price in Belgium (CIF) - 2023
The average rye import price stood at $506 per ton in August 2023, surging by 81% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a tangible expansion from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.3% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, rye import price increased by +80.8% against July 2023 indices. The import price peaked at $544 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($1,143 per ton), while the price for Poland ($236 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+6.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Rye Price in Belgium (FOB) - 2022
The average rye export price stood at $378 per ton in 2022, surging by 20% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by 77%. The export price peaked at $447 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($910 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($260 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+8.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Rye Imports in Belgium
In 2022, purchases abroad of rye decreased by -39.2% to 19K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 550%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 36K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, rye imports fell markedly to $6.4M in 2022. In general, imports, however, posted significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 428% against the previous year.
