Wheat crop cultivation is the process of growing wheat plants for the purpose of harvesting their grains, which are used in a wide variety of food products such as bread, pasta, and cereal. It is one of the most important staple crops in the world and plays a vital role in feeding the global population.
Wheat cultivation typically begins with the selection of suitable land and soil preparation. Wheat thrives in well-drained loamy soils with a pH ranging from 6 to 7.5. The land is plowed to break up the soil and create a favorable seedbed for planting.
Once the soil is prepared, the next step is to sow the wheat seeds. Seeds can be sown either by hand or by using specialized machinery such as seed drills. The spacing between the seeds and the depth of planting are important factors that vary depending on the variety and the climate conditions of the region.
After sowing, the wheat seeds germinate and develop into seedlings. These seedlings require appropriate moisture levels to grow successfully. Adequate irrigation methods, such as sprinkler or drip irrigation, may be employed to ensure consistent moisture supply to the growing plants.
Fertilizers are an essential part of wheat cultivation as they provide the necessary nutrients for plant growth. Nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium are the primary components of fertilizers used in wheat farming. They can be applied before sowing or as top-dressing during the crop's growth stages.
Weed control is another crucial aspect of wheat cultivation. Weeds compete with the crop for resources and can significantly reduce its yield. Farmers employ various methods to control weeds, including mechanical removal, the use of herbicides, and crop rotation.
As the wheat plants mature, they enter the reproductive stage and develop flowering heads. These heads eventually become the grains that are harvested. The timing of the harvest is crucial as it determines the quality and quantity of the grains. Harvesting methods can vary, but commonly, wheat crops are harvested using combine harvesters, which cut the plants and separate the grains from the straw.
After harvesting, the wheat grains undergo several processes, including threshing, winnowing, and milling, to separate the edible portion from the chaff and obtain the final product that is ready for consumption or further processing.
Overall, wheat crop cultivation is a complex and labor-intensive process that requires careful planning, proper management of resources, and adherence to various agricultural practices. With its high nutritional value and versatile use, wheat remains a vital crop for global food security.

In 2022, wheat price growth is forecast to slow down with sufficient global production and falling demand for feed grains in the U.S. and the EU. Global wheat output is set to remain at the 2021’s level of approx. 777M tons.
The average annual wheat price in the U.S. is forecast to drop by 2% y-o-y to $250 per ton in 2022, falling on reduced domestic consumption coupled with stable supply worldwide. The market balance will be buoyed by production gains in Argentina and the EU that will offset decreasing output in Brazil and Paraguay.
This year, harvests in the EU, the U.S., the UK, Argentina, Morocco and Ukraine are expected to increase, leading to a growth in wheat production. Even though global stockpiles of grains will remain high, there are boosted expectations for inflation due to forecasts of record demand and increased prices for other cereal grains. The rising global population and bioethanol production are key factors leading to this growth in demand for wheat. Another driving factor is the emerging trend in the EU to use more wheat in animal feed rather than barley.
Global wheat production will reach 758.3 million tons in 2020, showing a slight decrease of 0.5 percent over the previous year's highs and still at a fairly high level.
Global wheat consumption amounted to X thousand tons in 2015, remaining constant against the previous year level.
In 2015, the countries with the highest levels of production were China (X thousand tons), India (X thousand tons), Russia (X thousand tons), together accounting for X% of total output.
The U.S. dominates in the global wheat trade. In 2014, the U.S. exported X thousand tons of wheat totaling X million USD, X% under the previous year. Its primary trading partner was Japan, where it supplied X% of its total wheat exports in
