Wrapping Papers Price in Australia (FOB) - 2022
The average wrapping papers export price stood at $879 per ton in 2022, rising by 24% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.8%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 25%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $883 per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($1,183 per ton), while the average price for exports to Fiji ($606 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Saudi Arabia (+5.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Wrapping Papers Price in Australia (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average wrapping papers import price amounted to $1,845 per ton, growing by 4.6% against the previous month. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 12% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $2,364 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to July 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was France ($4,147 per ton), while the price for South Korea ($723 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+3.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Wrapping Papers Exports in Australia
In 2022, shipments abroad of wrapping paper, packaging paper and paperboard decreased by -13.2% to 102K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 8.2% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 120K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, wrapping papers exports totaled $90M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
