In 2021, shipments abroad of concentrated grapefruit juice increased by 101% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after four years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible slump. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, concentrated grapefruit juice exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt contraction. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Thailand prevails in exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was near 77% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Japan (X tons), achieving a 5.2% share of total exports. The following exporters - the Philippines (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) - together made up 13% of total exports.

Exports from Thailand increased at an average annual rate of +8.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the Philippines (+32.7%) and Vietnam (+17.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Philippines emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of +32.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Japan (-1.5%), Taiwan (Chinese) (-10.8%) and Malaysia (-10.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Thailand (+45 p.p.), the Philippines (+4 p.p.) and Vietnam (+2.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Malaysia and Taiwan (Chinese) saw its share reduced by -4% and -4.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Thailand ($X), Japan ($X) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 73% of total exports. Vietnam, Malaysia and the Philippines lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 17%.

The Philippines, with a CAGR of +29.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Asia-Pacific amounted to $X per ton, falling by -20.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+5.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Asia-Pacific

After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of concentrated grapefruit juice increased by 3.8% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 10%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, concentrated grapefruit juice imports fell modestly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a slight contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 44% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Japan represented the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which accounted for 49% of total imports. China (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 26% share, followed by South Korea (10%) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (5%). Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in China (with a CAGR of +21.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
