In value terms, molluscs exports fell sharply to $X in 2023. Overall, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2022 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2023, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

China represented the largest exporter of molluscs (scallops, mussels, cuttle fish, squid and octopus) in Eastern Asia, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was near X% of total exports in 2023. It was distantly followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) and Japan (X tons), together generating a X% share of total exports. South Korea (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Japan (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Japan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, Taiwan (Chinese) (X%) and South Korea (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2023, the share of China and Japan increased by X and X percentage points, respectively.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2023, imports remained at a lower figure.
