The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Poland (X tons) and Germany (X tons) represented roughly 32% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Spain (X tons), Belarus (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), France (X tons), Lithuania (X tons) and Hungary (X tons), together creating a 35% share of total exports. Italy (X tons), Belgium (X tons), the UK (X tons), Austria (X tons) and Romania (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Lithuania (with a CAGR of +18.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest illuminated sign supplying countries in Europe were Germany ($X), Poland ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), together accounting for 37% of total exports. These countries were followed by Austria, the UK, France, Spain, Italy, Lithuania, Belarus, Hungary, Romania and Belgium, which together accounted for a further 43%.

Lithuania, with a CAGR of +20.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 9.9% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 11% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+13.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a slight shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, illuminated sign imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 27%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The countries with the highest levels of illuminated sign imports in 2021 were Germany (X tons), France (X tons) and the UK (X tons), together recording 36% of total import. It was followed by Spain (X tons), Russia (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Austria (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Switzerland (X tons), together mixing up a 32% share of total imports. Norway (X tons), Sweden (X tons), Ireland (X tons) and Portugal (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

In value terms, the largest illuminated sign importing markets in Europe were France ($X), Germany ($X) and Switzerland ($X), with a combined 34% share of total imports. The UK, Austria, Norway, the Netherlands, Italy, Sweden, Spain, Russia, Ireland and Portugal lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 48%.

Ireland, with a CAGR of +20.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 11% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.4%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while Portugal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+4.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
