In 2021, shipments abroad of concentrated grapefruit juice increased by 123% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after four years of decline. In general, exports saw a prominent expansion. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, concentrated grapefruit juice exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Thailand prevails in exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 87% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the Philippines (X tons), comprising a 4.9% share of total exports. The following exporters - Malaysia (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) - each resulted at a 6.5% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to concentrated grapefruit juice exports from Thailand stood at +8.2%. At the same time, the Philippines (+32.7%) and Vietnam (+17.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Philippines emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +32.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Malaysia (-10.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Thailand (+11 p.p.), the Philippines (+4.2 p.p.) and Vietnam (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Malaysia saw its share reduced by -13.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest concentrated grapefruit juice supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Thailand totaled +4.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Vietnam (+23.1% per year) and Malaysia (-5.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -10.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a pronounced contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 66% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, concentrated grapefruit juice imports in South-Eastern Asia declined dramatically to X tons, reducing by -33.7% against 2020. Total imports indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 85%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, concentrated grapefruit juice imports contracted to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 33%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Lao People's Democratic Republic represented the main importer of concentrated grapefruit juice in South-Eastern Asia, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 52% of total imports in 2021. The Philippines (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Indonesia (X tons), Singapore (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 42% share of total imports. Thailand (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Lao People's Democratic Republic increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Singapore (+15.7%), Vietnam (+13.7%) and the Philippines (+4.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Singapore emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +15.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Indonesia (-8.3%) and Thailand (-9.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Singapore, the Philippines, Lao People's Democratic Republic and Vietnam increased by +6.4, +5.1, +4.7 and +3.7 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Indonesia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported concentrated grapefruit juice in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 38% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by the Philippines, with a 15% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Indonesia stood at -5.0%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Lao People's Democratic Republic (-0.7% per year) and the Philippines (+13.1% per year).

Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild decrease.
