Beef Price in Norway (CIF) - 2022
The average beef import price stood at $6,008 per ton in 2022, dropping by -1.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 20%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $9,908 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uruguay ($15,520 per ton), while the price for Germany ($5,565 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Beef Price in Norway (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average beef export price amounted to $5,588 per ton, which is down by -8.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a perceptible shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 27%. The export price peaked at $9,926 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($18,409 per ton), while the average price for exports to Tanzania ($4,604 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+12.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Beef Imports in Norway
After three years of growth, purchases abroad of beef (cattle meat) decreased by -14.2% to 19K tons in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated significant growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +20.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +74.3% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 56%.
In value terms, beef imports fell significantly to $116M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.9% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +43.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 36%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $137M, and then shrank markedly in the following year.
