Chocolate and Confectionery Price in Myanmar (CIF) - 2022

In December 2022, the average chocolate and confectionery import price amounted to $3,274 per ton, reducing by -8.1% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in August 2022 an increase of 63% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $4,104 per ton in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to December 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2022, the countries with the highest prices were France ($4,000 per ton) and Singapore ($3,841 per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($2,969 per ton) and Germany ($3,076 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+8.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Chocolate and Confectionery Price in Myanmar (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average chocolate and confectionery export price amounted to $4,576 per ton, declining by -71.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a mild decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 197% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $15,987 per ton, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($33,511 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($1,484 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (+206.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Chocolate and Confectionery Imports in Myanmar

In 2022, purchases abroad of chocolate and confectionery was finally on the rise to reach 1.9K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt descent.

In value terms, chocolate and confectionery imports contracted to $6.3M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a abrupt downturn.

Chocolate and confectionery exports from Myanmar skyrocketed to 36 tons in 2022, surging by 198% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, exports showed buoyant growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, chocolate and confectionery exports declined to $165K in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 19%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $194K, and then contracted in the following year.
