Fresh Whole Chicken Price in Latvia (CIF) - 2023

In September 2023, the average fresh whole chicken import price amounted to $2,312 per ton, declining by -3.1% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 an increase of 8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $2,530 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to September 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was France ($5,447 per ton), while the price for Poland ($2,180 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Estonia (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In September 2023, the average fresh whole chicken export price amounted to $3,245 per ton, growing by 3.4% against the previous month. Over the period from September 2022 to September 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in July 2023 when the average export price increased by 11% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum in September 2023.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($6,986 per ton), while the average price for exports to Estonia ($2,954 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Lithuania (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Fresh Whole Chicken Imports in Latvia

For the third year in a row, Latvia recorded decline in purchases abroad of fresh or chilled whole chickens, which decreased by -12.4% to 4.5K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a deep downturn. The smallest decline of -1.9% was in 2021.

In value terms, fresh whole chicken imports declined to $10M in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 14%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $10M, and then fell in the following year.

After two years of decline, shipments abroad of fresh or chilled whole chickens increased by 65% to 1.1K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
